[So the City was a pain, but Chuuya went home eventually. Everyone did at some point - Ryuunosuke before him, and others before him. That wasn't a surprise so much as it was sudden.

Equally sudden, and more surprising, was finding himself in a completely different city a few months after that. At least this one was a little less sex-obsessed and easier to identify: Yokohama. The Yokohama that contained the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia, specifically.

Chuuya doesn't have Ryuunosuke's address or anything, and he doesn't think the Port Mafia has a big sign on its headquarters. They probably work out of someplace nondescript that you'd overlook anyway, if they're smart.

What he does have is an ability to recognize the shady parts of town and linger longer than he should, and an incredible lack of self-preservation that will lead him to ask similarly lingering people:]

'Scuse me, I'm looking for a guy named Ryuunosuke - tall, usually wearing black, wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley?

[If nothing else, he's going to give Akutagawa's subordinates a stroke just by calling their commander by his first name only.]

[Atsushi deserved the world, and he deserved a beautiful wedding. Chuuya couldn't legally give him a marriage - while Atsushi might have had papers sorted out to be able to live in his world as a regular person, Chuuya was a spirit. There wasn't any way to marry someone who didn't exist as a person.

But a wedding, he could do.

The authors had been all too eager to help Chuuya and Atsushi with arrangements. The Chief Librarian and the Cat had found a Shinto priest willing to do the blessings, Dazai had helped Atsushi pick out a hakama to wear at the wedding.

And as for Atsushi's end, Fukuzawa had insisted on paying for everything - ceremony, reception, food, outfits, the works. Everyone who wasn't Dazai was excited about Atsushi's wedding, and even Dazai had been lectured into not being visibly grumpy about it.

The temple is nearby, practically in walking distance, but Chuuya and Atsushi are being driven there (again, Chief Librarian) so they don't have to worry about getting their hakama dirty. So all that has to be done is to get in the car.

But Chuuya has forgotten how to walk, or think, or do anything but stare at Atsushi in his wedding outfit, the first time Chuuya's seen him in it.]

...Atsushi, you're beautiful.

[Chuuya has spent the past month not letting Atsushi read any of his poetry.

This isn't typical for him. He often reads his poetry to Atsushi, asks if it flows well or if the images come across clearly. Even when he doesn't, he doesn't usually shoo Atsushi away if he stumbles upon him writing.

But for the past month, Chuuya hasn't shared any poetry and all, and when Atsushi finds him writing he'll immediately hide his paper before Atsushi can even get a glance and refuses to talk about what it is he's working on.

Tonight, Chuuya seems even more nervous.]

...Hey, Atsushi. Are you busy tonight?

Just by the nature of No Longer Human, Dazai should enjoy a certain level of immunity to everyone else's shenanigans. Can't be driven insane by Q, or dragged into a book by Poe. Can't be healed by Yosano, which is annoying when he could really use it, but on the other hand, there's something to be said for not giving Yosano an excuse to cut him up.

But Lovecraft's already proven that Dazai isn't completely immune, even in his own world. There are stranger things than abilities out there.

And waking up on the doorstep of the National Library instead of in Dazai's bed would certainly qualify as 'strange'.

There's a sign that says it's the National Library, and it looks like any pictures of the National Library Dazai might have seen. Dazai gets about a minute to puzzle over what the hell happened before someone steps outside, and freezes.

"...Dazai?"

Finding someone he hadn't expected to see ever again on his literal doorstep is enough for Chuuya to drop the insulting nickname. It'll come back later, don't worry.

[Introducing Atsushi and Kyouka to the library had been, in some ways, surprisingly easy.

Chuuya had disappeared for a few months, so it wasn't all that strange that he'd come back with two more people in tow - and given that they were all dead authors anyway, explaining that there was a parallel world where they weren't dead authors hadn't been that difficult. Miss Librarian had accepted it, anyway, and Miss Librarian's word was law.

Things kind of go that way when she's literally the only reason any of them are alive.

Chuuya'd introduced Atsushi and Kyouka to the chief librarian, a boisterous man who'd welcomed them to the library and told them they could stay as long as they liked. Then to the talking cat, who'd been quieter, but told them that there were library positions they could fill - normal positions, like filing books. They could live peaceful lives, if they wanted.

Miss Librarian took care of explaining things to the other authors, and the first writer who approached Atsushi when he had a moment to himself was...]

Ah, excuse me. You're... Atsushi-kun?

[...a nervous-looking young man with a boa made of white tiger fur.]
