[Feelings are just, like, the worst.

Shuji will lean in and kiss Dazai when asked, of course, but it's not as desperate and lust-fueled as it usually is. It's something softer and sweeter. That isn't only because Shuji wants not to hurt Dazai anymore or agitate his injuries.

He has a bunch of feelings. Sorry about that.]

[There’s no escaping this, is there...?

He’s not sure he even wants to escape these feelings, though, which is absolutely terrifying.

He returns the kiss and slides his fingers through Shuji’s hair with an incredibly soft touch, and all the words left unsaid come spilling out In the way he doesn’t pull away or turn it into something naughty.

He lets his lips linger against Shuji’s for a moment more before breaking the kiss and nuzzling his face into his neck.]

I’m glad you came to see me. I can’t wait to wake up next to you every morning, Kitten.

[Dazai is still so warm. When Shuji's close to him like this, it's impossible not to know that Dazai's still alive and well.

It's impossible not to know that Dazai wouldn't allow this kind of sweet moment with someone he had no feelings about at all.]

Me too, Dazai-sama. I'll bring my things over today, so when you get out of the hospital you can be sure you won't come back to an empty apartment.

[He strokes Dazai's hair, soothing, as gentle as the smile he wears.]

That would be wonderful, Kitten.

[Dazai hasn’t ever been faithful enough to keep a long-term partner, and while he’s had cuddly one night stands before, he’s never been touched quite so gently. It’s odd to think that after all the sins he’s committed that he’s allowed to feel such happiness...

And now he’s just so warm and cozy...his eyelids are growing heavy...

Reluctantly he pulls away and moves to lie down on the bed, the wound in his side throbbing with pain.]

I’m sorry, Shuji-kun...I may end up falling asleep!

[Out in the hallway, unbeknownst to even Dazai, Chuuya leans against the doorway, listening in. Shuji will definitely run into him when he goes out into the hall, and he looks none too pleased.]

[Shuji gives Dazai the softest of cheek kisses, before he goes to exit the hospital room.

...and sees a grumpy midget in a hat standing right outside.]

Can I help you with something?

[He doesn't immediately associate him with the other Chuuya, at least not consciously, but he's not predisposed to be nice to eavesdroppers.]

[Don't call him a midget, Shuji. Not if you want to keep your kneecaps.]

No, but I can help you. What the fuck was that, exactly?? Letting him call you Kitten? That’s a new one.

[Chuuya pushes off the wall and gets all up in Shuji’s personal space, radiating irritation.]

[In any other circumstance, Shuji is a pacifier, agreeing to whatever the person clearly angry and in his space says in order to keep his kneecaps, even if he's blatantly lying.

The exception: when they're shit-talking someone he admires.]

It's less a defensive question than it is genuinely confused about why Shuji would possibly care about Dazai's past.]

He doesn't have to care. I'm happy if he does, but he doesn't have to care to be my master.

[He just has to praise Shuji and tell him he's pleasing him. It doesn't have to be because Dazai cares about him as a person, as long as Shuji's efforts get rewarded.

Maybe they are made for each other. Maybe the smile Shuji gives isn't entirely all there.]

Okay, yeah. This guy is bonkers. Like, Akutagawa levels of obsession with Dazai. Maybe worse.

Whatever. He’s too sober for this.]

[Chuuya is going to step into Dazai’s room to deliver some news about ADA/Mafia business, but if Shuji is that obsessed, he may have something to say about it.]

[Shuji is going to glare holes in Chuuya's back, but if he was here to hurt Dazai he wouldn't bother trying to convince Shuji not to move in with him, so after a bit of waiting (just to make sure there's no sounds of a fight from inside), Shuji leaves. He has packing to do.

The important possessions of his are his books and his clothes. Everything else can be left behind - Dazai's apartment is already furnished and they'll be sharing a bed. He doesn't bother to tell anyone that he's moving out, just dashes out a quick note and leaves it on his now-empty dresser.

There's moderate concern when Oda finds that note an hour or so later, but this isn't actually out of character for Shuji, so for now his coworkers will leave him be.

Not that Shuji cares. After finding somewhere to put his clothes and his books, he climbs into Dazai's bed to take a long, peaceful nap.]

[Dazai’s visit with Chuuya is extremely brief; his former partner seemed even more grumpy than usual, and left shortly after delivering the news that Fyodor has been spotted. Most likely on purpose, of course. Dazai has a plan; one that involves Fitzgerald, actually, but it’ll have to wait until he can, you know, walk a decent distance without collapsing.

He’s discharged the next morning, and after being picked up in an ADA sponsored vehicle, is dropped off at his apartment to recover for a few days. In which he hopes that nothing goes wrong.

This time he’d informed Shuji of his status throughout the night, and he’s delighted to see his Kitten waiting for him in his bed. He crawls in right next to him a presses a soft kiss to his forehead.]

Welcome home.

[Shuji had been laying in bed - their bed - to wait for Dazai, checking his texts religiously to not miss a single update and answering each of Dazai's texts. 'Can't wait to see you.' 'I'll unlock the door for you.' 'I adore you.'

His collar is on, now a more-or-less permanent fixture on his neck now. Besides that, he's still wearing his pajamas, not having had much reason to get up yet.]

Welcome home, Dazai-sama.

[Shuji kisses Dazai's cheek in return.]

[Dazai is enjoying this warm, fuzzy feeling, but he’s also curious...]

Did you run into Chuuya on your way out of the hospital? Short, red hair, ridiculous hat?

Right outside your room. Of course he's a Nakahara Chuuya...

[Okay, now he's grumpy.]

He said he used to be your partner in the mafia and tried to convince me not to move in with you. He can go fuck off.

[Okay, Dazai can’t help but laugh at that.]

[He purposely avoids mentioning the Mafia thing.]

Obviously his opinion had no impact on your decision.

[Dazai's laugh is always good at cheering Shuji back up, at least.]

[Chuuya HAD made an offhand comment about Dazai’s new pet being “goddamn bonkers”...he wonders what had transpired between them out in the hall. If only he hadn’t fallen asleep!]

[It’s meant to be a joke...but with Shuji’s level of dedication, he can’t be so sure that murder didn’t cross his mind.]

[He wouldn't have killed him, probably. Just stabbed him a few times, or until he stopped moving.

[Dazai looks deathly serious as he says that, but it’s purely for Shuji’s safety. Dazai knows better than anyone just how brutal their methods can be.

But that stern look quickly fades as he strokes under Shuji’s chin as if he’s an actual cat.]

[Of course Dazai's concerned about him picking a fight with mafiosos. Shuji knows, on some level, that he'd run a large risk of dying again.

Dazai's concern just proves that Chuuya was wrong about him.]
