[Velda waves and absently plucks a mushroom from the top of her head, throwing it into the nearest garbage can.]

I've got a few questions, but I should ask the most important one, right? So not about why Hazel wants to give me a makeover or if I'll figure out a cure for the mushroom thing. So... if the Arcanology Club are going to break all the rules and change the world, how should we best go about doing that?

The Sun is always a positive card you want to see in a venture like changing the world. Have confidence in yourself and your goals, but also view things from a practical standpoint and be prepared to alter course if it becomes necessary.

You see, I think I do that, but I don't always know if I do. Or maybe other people just have a different view of practicality? Maybe a different view of normal. But if we need to change course, I can prepare! I have a bunch of hidden spots mapped out for if we need to replace our meeting room.

Thanks! [She reaches into her sleeve, pulls off another mushroom, and throws that out too.] The school already doesn't like us, and they really wouldn't like it if they knew what we were doing.

...How are you doing that, may I ask?

[fallmushrooms]

Oh, I accidentally cursed myself in first year and I haven't figured out how to undo it yet. It's a minor annoyance, as things go, so it's sort of low priority.

[harpbeat]

I see. Are they edible?

I'm not sure, I think it'd be considered cannibalism.

[harpbeat]

Picks one off and puts it in her pocket.]

Uh... for science?

My other half would be pleased to try something like this. He has an appetite for strange foods.

Your boyfriend eats mushrooms that came off of people? Or I guess your brother or maybe your business partner, sometimes people say "other half" about people they aren't dating, and it gets confusing and then you realize you should have asked for clarification.

[harpbeat]

Split personality.

[Closer to the second than the first or third, I guess.]

Oh! Okay. That makes sense. Or I think it makes sense. If you need any more, they grow a lot, though I still think it might be cannibalism.

That should not be an issue unless you are also an angel.

Oh, is that how it works? Well, I'm not an angel. They say witches were descended from fairies, but then fairies disappeared, and no one's ever figured out where they went.

Angels eating witches isn't cannibalism, so there should be no cause for concern.

Somehow that seems more concerning. Is it me?

Well, okay... I guess if it isn't cannibalism, then you won't get that fungus or something that you get from cannibalism. Something that starts with a 'P,' I forget.

Right, the brain thing! I knew that. Don't get that, it doesn't sound like fun.

[Jail shuffles the deck with flair, showing off a little. She has to actively force herself not to palm a few cards for cheating purposes, out of sheer habit.]

Hey, good things are worth the wait, right? [She winks.] So... do the cards think I'm gonna be lucky in love?

[...Yeah, this is her taking a transparent excuse to flirt with a pretty lady. No one is surprised.]

Hey, if you want, I could totally read the stars for you after you read the cards for me. As for questions... [A slight sigh.] Things have changed a lot back home- hopefully for the better, but it's a still a pretty big shakeup. How do you think my world's going to do?

Hmm. Even in cases where the change is for the better, it is all too easy for people to slip through the cracks when a great upheaval occurs, and too often is their plight simply missed or forgotten. Keep an eye out for those who are in need of support.

[She gives the cards a wry look.] Welp, I guess peace and quiet was a little much to hope for.

Striking down fear and illusions with truth and justice sounds pretty accurate for how we got to this point. ["Be logical", on the other hand, is pretty much a nonstarter where Breakers are concerned.] As for the rest... I don't love it, but hard times are what healers are for.

I might not like to work hard, but if I have to for everyone's sake, then I have to. [She shrugs.] C'est la vie.

Indeed. As tiresome as hard work is, the smiles on the faces of those you protect are rewarding, are they not?
