You've awoken in a creepy goth carnival, with a rasping moth man informing you that you've entered a tournament as part of a greater Ritual. The ritual will be complete, and the living returned to their world, when only one participant remains. If no one kills, then Grimm will be forced to provide a little extra incentive to get things moving.

Whether you like it or not, you're part of a murdergame.

Or, if that's not how you'd like to interact with your mastermind, he also has his own tent you can visit. He's weirdly personable, depite the whole 'trapping you here and making you kill each other' thing.]

Deadland NPCs

As the heat of Grimm’s flames knocks you unconscious, a memory slots into place.

It’s of Grimm. Not as he was a few moments ago mercilessly beating you into the ground, but a calm and polite Grimm offering you a deal. Participate in his tournament, and he would reward you. Whatever desire lies closest to your heart, no matter how seemingly impossible, Grimm offered to fulfill it with the power of a god.

Perhaps you were suspicious. Perhaps you were all too eager to sign on board. But eventually, somehow, you agreed to do him this favor. You agreed to all this.

When you come to, it’s to the sound of a cat’s meow. Something small and bug-shaped is nudging your face.

The 'deadland' is in a separate area from the rest of the carnival, although magical mirrors allow the supposedly-dead to keep an eye on the remaining partipants. It's comfortably furnished. Two of Grimm's troupe are available to take requests for whatever you need until the tournament ends.

The baby might demand that you pet them.]

[The best way to deal with being kidnapped is to get REVENGE.

Unfortunately, Makoto's not very good at that. But she tries. Today, she's got a ladder, and she's trying to set up a water bucket over the door... please tell her that's not going to work with a tent.]

[Because who better to put into a PSL than someone I couldn't possibly app to a real murdergame? She's way too dumb for this.

Makoto is an enigma; she came in with almost no memories at all, and her profile is filled with weird things she can't explain, like a "?" after her name and listing her age as 7 when she's clearly at least 15. Not that she acts very mature, prone to growling, whining, and revenge pranks that never work. You can often find her eating, reading manga she got out of the regain gacha, trying to climb on stuff, or otherwise complaining.

Or in deadland. She can't possibly live very long, after all.]

Kirika Kure | Puella Magi Oriko Magica

[Kirika is... well, a handful, really. To say she acts like a giant kid is putting it mildly. She eats almost all the sweets she can find, acts too brashly for someone this young, and doesn't seem to have any self preservation.

Also she keeps talking about someone who she doesn't name. Huh. Weird.

She's probably harmless, though, even if she doesn't seem at all phased by any of the killings. Maybe there's something else about that weird loud-mouthed teenager. As for deadland, well. She probably took at least one other person with her.]

It's everyone's food! Besides, you hog too much of the good stuff anyway.

Luca Balsa | Identity V

((So, I wanted to try out an idea I had for this character that would only work in a memloss game. Most of the time, this means a character thinks they're from an earlier canonpoint than they really are and they remember something every week. Unfortunately, Luca here has brain damage that took a heavy toll on his memory, so...))

Waking up.
[Nothing seemed familiar to him. The carnival was clearly not any place he's been to before, he was sure of that much. But where was he before? He must have been well off, but remembering where he was was like trying to remember a dream...

... And what he remembered wearing before was nothing like what he wore now. Jeans and boots? A striped prison shirt and a chain on his neck? It didn't fit, nothing seemed to fit. He noticed one eye wasn't opening all the way and began to worry his own skin didn't fit.

Where was he? Why was he dressed like this? Who was he?

He kept tugging at his own chain and staring in bewilderment. He's definitely not paying attention to anyone around him, which is rather inconvenient given he's standing in the way here.]

Early Game
[Poor fellow. He has to muddle through the first week or two knowing only his name, which is Luca, and whatever unhelpful drivel they put in his profile.

He quickly learns that he seems to have trouble remembering certain things, but his intelligence and curiosity seem to make up for it. He's rather active on the investigation front, taking evidence when he can and notes when he can't, and if he hasn't held a meeting he tries to be useful in one.

When he's not poking through the carnival or worrying about getting killed, he'll entertain himself by tinkering with whatever machinery he can get his hands on. He's especially attracted to electrical devices, and he realizes he has much expertise in electric circuitry. Could be useful... And he keeps his eyes peeled for anyone giving away gacha items. Maybe something in there might have belonged to him once?]

Mid Game and onwards
[Like everyone else, he starts remembering more as the weeks go on. His memories are somewhat vague, but they're clear enough to explain things...

Alas, a good chunk of these memories he wished had stayed forgotten.

At least he remembers he had a goal before he got here. Not that he can really invent anything when there's the threat of murder constantly hanging over his head, but he has a good reason to escape now... Or kill...

The question is, would he be smart enough not to fall to temptation?]

[Grimm hasn't made a secret that Luca's near-complete lack of memories is concerning to him.]

Nakajima Atsushi | Bungou to Alchemist

[A kindhearted man, if a bit of a doormat. Also a recognizable famous author. Gets weirdly quiet and focused during the executions, but is always available to help with the afterparty.

It comes out that he has a split personality, who takes over during the executions so that Atsushi doesn't have to see them. One week the evidence seems to point towards Atsushi, but Atsushi's been puzzling things out as hard as anyone else and is baffled by how evidence lines up against him - at least until someone points out that he doesn't remember what his other half does, does he?

Super weak to Grimmchild in deadland.]

[Makoto wobbles and drops the bucket, spilling it harmlessly on the ground, to cling to the ladder.]

[As the other captive with Zero Memories and a confusing profile, Makoto's drawn to Luca fairly often, which is a nice way to say "enjoy your tsundere hanger-on." Sorry. A new tent's opened up, and so she's a few paces behind as they explore it. This one seems to be a hall of mirrors.]

[Makoto was probably doing something, but got distracted when Grimmchild went to go greet the new arrivals -- okay, go see if any of them would pet them. She shows up sniffing the air and hangs back at the tent door, staring at Atsushi as he wakes up.]

You're dead now?

[ He doesn't mind the company, actually. It's kind of nice knowing you're not the only person who barely remembers anything. In fact, now that she's been hanging around long enough he's starting to get attached to the kid. ]

Probably not, [ he muses as he peers into his own distorted reflection, ] This seems like a normal attraction for a carnival to have.

[ Most people would laugh at their image in the warped mirrors, right? Even so, all Luca sees in those mirrors is a stark reminder of his troubles in the form of a mystery blemish over his eye. He can't help but put his hand to his discolored eyelid... ]

Hey, do you think this has healed any since I woke up here?

[ As concerning as that is, at least their captor wasn't responsible for wiping his memories... Probably... He glances over at Grimm with a hesitant look in his eyes. ]

Oh... They're still coming back... Piecemeal...

[ The good news is, he's managing to recover considerable chunks as the weeks go on. Last week started with him excitedly telling everyone he was close to how he was once the apprentice to the most famous inventor in town, and how their greatest creation was so close to being complete...

Which makes his dismal mood this morning all the more concerning. Something must have gone terribly wrong... ]

Uh... [She stares a little.] Don't think so. Is it really a bruise? Maybe you were born like that.
