[Atsushi actually hasn’t had time to go there since he moved to Recolle.]

I've gotten a couple of drowning-related memories and I just don't want to ruin our date with something like that, I'm so sorry.

[That sounds so awful. Atsushi can’t even imagine.]

It’s okay, don’t be sorry! Um...what about the forest? Like a nature walk?

[Shuji's just glad he doesn't have to veto this one. Plus, it really does sound wonderful, walking through the forest with Atsushi, holding hands...]

[He’s already gathering his things. He’s so excited!]

Sure, but I haven't finished all the Valentine's Day chocolates my boyfriend made me, so I'll be bringing that along.

I’m glad you like them.

[It’s not long before they end up at the entrance of the forest, and Atsushi musters up all the courage he has before taking Shuji’s hand in his own and intertwining their fingers.]

Your favorite flowers are peach blossoms, right? Maybe we’ll see some.

[Shuji gently squeezes Atsushi's hand. He'd been about to take it if Atsushi hadn't beaten him to the punch.]

I don't know if they're in bloom now, but that'd be nice. Which flowers are your favorites?

Sunflowers!

[Not the most exotic or beautiful flower, but certainly sunny and cheerful.

Atsushi starts down one of the trails, careful not to pull Shuji along and instead walk beside him.]

Maybe we’ll see some birds.

[A grin.]

Cardinals kind of remind me of you.

I'll take that as a compliment.

[Shuji smiles with mischief dancing in his eyes.]

I'd ask what your absolute favorite bird is, but no matter what birds we find I'm sure you'll be much prettier than all of them.

[He’s never thought of himself as pretty...but he can’t just brush off a compliment. That would be rude.]

Um...I really like hummingbirds...they’re really cute...

They suit you. Bright and full of energy. But if you're like a hummingbird, then how do I lure Atsushis to my yard?

[Shuji just can't resist flirting with his boyfriend, it's impossible.]

[Oh wow, now he’s blushing furiously, hiding his face behind his hand as he lets out a nervous little laugh.]

With sweets...

[Just like hummingbirds.

He walks along beside Shuji for a bit longer, and out of the corner of his eye he spots a flash of brown fur. Atsushi gasps before kneeling down low and whispering:]

Is that a deer?

[Shuji crouches down with him.]

I think so... Maybe a fawn?

[It's kind of small for a deer. If it's a fawn, there should be other deer nearby, but he doesn't see any right now.]

It’s so small...

[Atsushi’s eyes are alight with wonder as the mother deer emerges from a nearby bush and then starts licking her baby.]

That’s so cute...

[Atsushi is adorable when he’s fascinated with something.]

Too bad we can’t pet them.

[But Atsushi's always adorable, this isn't new??]

The mom might think we were trying to hurt her baby. We should just consider ourselves lucky we got this close.

[Any second now the two of them could decide to get going.]

You’re right. We should leave them be.

[He’s just insanely happy that he got to see something so special.

Eventually they’ll come upon a small river flowing through the forest, and Atsushi bends down to dip his fingers into the clear, cool water.]

It’s pretty...this entire forest is, actually.

[Oh look, there’s a small, pretty white flower growing by the riverside. Atsushi thinks of plucking it and putting it in Shuji’s hair, but that would end up killing it...]

Ah...I hope the river is okay, Shuji-kun.

The river is fine.

[It's not like they'll be taking a swim in it. Shuji sits down by the riverside.]

The forest is pretty, but I've been looking at you for most of the walk.

[Oh boy, now he’s blushing again...]

Shuji-kun...um...I’ve never really...had a boyfriend or gone on a date before, so...I’m sorry if I seem kind of lost sometimes.

[He plops down next to Shuji and gently rests his head on his shoulder.]

I just want to be a good boyfriend for you.

[Shuji wraps his arm around Atsushi.]

I didn't date you because I wanted some kind of Casanova. I'm dating you because I like you. You're sweet, and genuine, and I love spending time with you even if it's not 'the perfect date'. I don't even know what the perfect date is supposed to be.

I'm happy with you. If you're happy with me, then I think that's good enough.

Shuji-kun...

[Atsushi is tearing up now, but they’re happy tears, and he nuzzles into Shuji’s chest, smiling up at him.]

I am happy. You’re so kind, Shuji-kun, and warm...

[He tilts his head up, looking like he might just want a kiss but being too shy to go for it...]

[Shuji is less shy and has no self-control, not when it comes to his adorable boyfriend being close enough to kiss. He closes what little distance there is between them, giving Atsushi a soft, but long and lingering kiss on the lips.]

[Atsushi squeaks when Shuji kisses him, even if he’d seen it coming. His first kiss, and it’s with someone he’s been crushing on for so long. What could possibly be better? Except he has no idea what to do, so he tries to mimic Shuji’s movements and reaches up to slide his fingers through that pretty red hair. Should he try to...use tongue...or is that too much...]
