Haha. I suppose you wouldn't accept me saying that I didn't want to bother anyone? [ it should be illegal for a grown man to look this level of hangdog sheepish. ] Honestly, I think I might have gotten as far as realizing our writing systems are somewhat similar in structure if nothing else. That's just from pattern analysis though, I could be entirely off base- especially considering all the more complicated characters that pop up.

... right, so I know your first and last name don't have any repeat syllables in it, and that's too short anyway- so at least that particular set of characters doesn't seem to be phonetic.

Are they used for proper nouns, or something?

One kanji can be read in a bunch of different ways in the same word, because fuck you, that's why. And no, they're not just for proper nouns, they're for everything. Except loanwords from Western languages, those get their own alphabet.

The children's literature authors aren't that young, but they'll still play with the kids on closer to their level, so it works out.
