[It's mid-October, and Chuuya's been in a worse mood than normal. A different kind of worse mood - he drinks more, eats more, and avoids contact with anyone. Even his husband.

On the 21st, Chuuya pulls Atsushi aside.]

Tomorrow's my deathday. I probably'll be a pain to deal with.

[He's expecting Atsushi to just leave him alone. Who would want to be around Chuuya, even if they tolerated him normally?]

[The first sign of Chuuya's bad mood is the lack of cuddles at night. Many nights when Atsushi woke up he didn't feel Chuuya attached to him. He would see him bundle up in the blankets on the other side of the bed. Then he would be gone in the morning with a quick kiss instead of walking to work with him. They don't go for as many walks or for lunch or even for dinner. Atsushi knew something was wrong, he just didn't know how to approach it since he knew how much Chuuya didn't want him to worry. Atsushi's relieved when Chuuya pulls him to the side. Now many of his questions could be answered.

Atsushi's eyes widened when Chuuya tells him what day is tomorrow.

Oh...oh...what a day to remember.

Well, Atsushi wants to be around him.]

Oh, is that why you've been so distant lately? Chuuya, is there anything I can do to help?

[He really missed all the little things they used to do, but he wants to make sure that he's there for him.]

[For some reason it didn't occur to him that Atsushi would want to help, even though that's the most Atsushi thing he could possibly do.]

...I don't know. [It's not an evasion: he genuinely isn't sure.] Last year I just drank until I passed out, figured I'd end up doing that again?

[He hates to break it to you Chuuya, but that's not a very good plan. He wracks his brain to try to figure out what they could do.]

Did you want me to sit with you? I can be there when you drink then we can go to bed when you're finished.

[It's mostly so Atsushi can be there to watch him so he won't pass out this year.]

...I know this is going to be a hard day for you. I just don't want you to face it alone even if you want me to just sit with you I can do that. I can do anything I can to help.

[He really wants to be there for him. Surely, there's something for him to do, right?]

...You can stay if you want. But you can leave if you want. Promise me - if it gets too much, you'll leave.

[His suffering is set in stone, more or less. Atsushi doesn't have to hurt himself for Chuuya's sake.]

[Atsushi doesn't want Chuuya to be alone either. There has to be something he can do.]

I'll do my best to stay, but did you want something of mine to hold? If I can't be there I want you to have something of mine that will show I want to be here with you. If that's alright?

[He'd definitely take something to cuddle if he can't cuddle Atsushi. He'll make sure not to damage it in a fit of rage or despair.]
