Do you have family at all?

[true_noir]

Not traditionally, but Mistress Altena is like a mother to me, and always has been. Kirika is almost like my older sister in so many ways though a lot more too. We trained alongside each other for years.

My blood relatives, though, consigned me to the organization. They are my blood now and have always been so.

I understand. Many people feel similarly about the Port Mafia.

For me they're an extended family. My blood brother will always be my closest relative.

You still have that bond of closeness. That's wonderful. I don't envy it, but in a way Mistress adopted me, and I have always felt to be adopted is the same as blood in a sense.

It is. Blood relation isn't that important. Plenty of adopted siblings are closer than my brother and I.

Family is always the most important. I think I would do anything for someone I loved like that. But I think that's something you understand well.

[ogin]

I feel the same. My brother may not show it much, but he's similar.

[He'd be more protective if Gin couldn't protect herself.]

In our line of work, I don't think any of us are truly allowed to show it that much, save when we're in the privacy of the night, away from the task at hand. Can't allow ourselves to show the slightest weakness or attachment publicly after all.

[ogin]

Attachment is weakness. Affection is weakness. And there are plenty who would seize on any weakness we show.

[That's how it's always been, and Gin doesn't foresee that changing anytime soon.]

And of course, being human, none of us are immune to it, but we just have to be careful of its expression, especially in public. I'll admit that isn't my strongest suit.

And yet, I do not think I detect any judgment in my attempts to form an attachment of sorts, do I? Does that make you guilty, or simply tolerant of the interest?

I don't think I'm as obvious about it.

But just as guilty.

I won't apologize too much. If I beat around the bush, a certain someone might never know about my interest, after all. A little bit of boldness doesn't hurt, now and again.

I don't want an apology from you. I never said I minded.

Oh, I know. I meant in general. If you were displeased, I would have known it immediately and with no question.
