You're, ah... You're in a forest outside the city of Verens. We're on an island called Empatheias...
[He bends to peer around her at the oddly persistent portal.] I've...never seen anyone arrive here without simply appearing out of thin air, much less leave their means of travel behind them.
[If it leads out of here, he'd like to test it - would his memories remain if he left through some other means? If she can create portals to other worlds, would that allow everyone to go home through her intermediate world?]
[He sucks some breath through his teeth. A demon...even if she's the least threatening demon he's ever seen, it makes him uneasy. He's not long out of the torture he faced at Belial's hands. But he's not so affected by it (she looks more human than demon anyway) that he'll be rude...intentionally, at least.]
So, you are a demon after all. I can't say I've ever seen a demon so...well, friendly before.
Not any more than all the humans are like you. [It's not a question she's offended at - she's gotten it plenty of times.] We're about as varied as humans are.
[He just has to make sure! She could be totally friendly to living humans, after all, and that's how she gets them to sign their souls away for her to snack on later.
She seems pretty genuine, but he's not going to totally lower his guard until he's received an answer just as earnest as her previous answers.]
I suppose anything can be real, if you look at enough worlds... I didn't think a demon who doesn't feed on souls possible until now. So you live...as we would on Earth? Growing crops and tending animals for food?
[It seems surreal; he can say the words but can't picture fields and pastures in The Darkness (his only reference for where she comes from). It's too peaceful, too idyllic, too linked with normality and safety to reconcile the ideas.]
[That explains...just about everything about her appearance. He's not sure how to take this, in all honesty. She doesn't seem to be trying to seduce him, at least... In fact she's the most normal demon he's ever met, talking to him like anyone else instead of after something he has.
But still, what that entails - to his mind - is hard to reconcile with a being that simply needs to keep surviving. Maybe he's wrong about that too.]
So you... [just to be clear] ...feed through dreams?
eh, why not. Feel like an informal setting test drive?

sure thing!
[She's even dressed for the weather, more or less.]
I'm still not great with portals...

[She's just thinking of everyone's safety, that way.]

[He glances at the portal again.]
Are all the demons on the other side like you?

Thanks, though! [For the friendly comment.]

No! Why would we ever do something as awful as that?! That's terrible!

[Now he just feels bad. One would think, with all the representations of worlds he's seen here...]
That's how the demons I know feed themselves...I can't say I've had pleasant experiences with them.

[There is definitely nothing weird about admitting to being a succubus, not at all.]

[Swing and a miss. Again.]
