You're using quite an undefined term.

It is. Yet I've often found people are unwilling to share one or the other. Please feel free to take it however you wish.

Hmhm... I see.

Well then. In the short-term, my strongest goal is simply to ensure the elimination of a threat.

The long-term, however... that truly depends on the actions of those around me.

Isn't it usually the other way around, where the personal long-term goal is unaffected by others? I know that mine has remained largely constant.

Not at all. Nobody's goal can be truly said to be unaffected by others. While the goals may not change, the method to cause them may, etc, etc.

But in the end... this goal is one that does rely on others. It is not something I can sit back and wait for, but it is something that requires patience and will alter somewhat depending on the chosen path of those it relies on. I am nothing if not adaptive.

I see. I like to think I am as well, but I consider myself mostly self-reliant. Short-term plans will fail, but I can continue easily despite that.

To elaborate a little, these plans are affected by the survival or failure to survive of this world.

As a result, if the world is destroyed, these plans must then change.

I see. I am fortunate that my world currently seems to be likely to survive without divine intervention.

I don't know about your world, but I doubt that God would prevent the problem he himself caused.

Pardon. I meant that unless the gods step in to destroy it, I suspect we will be at least able to continue to exist.

I love nothing so little as them.

Really? I thought that was a remarkably restrained and succinct summary.

Considering the number of issues wrong with the world, to say that they are the least loved puts them below all possible things.

Hatred such as that is far better than the blind belief I see so often.

They are all the worse for being praised. Few are the people who will outright speak well of tyranny, hypocrisy, cruelty - but anyone you find will speak praises to the gods without second thought.

Ridiculous. Like driven sheep to the slaughter. They overlook all wrongs that those they worship may do and regale them as if they could do no wrong. And in the end, how are they served for it? Simply enslaved by the will of another, forgetting their ability to think for themselves.

Such foolish deception is beneath such a fantastic race.

Indeed it is. And yet the iron grip they have on innumerable worlds is nearly impossible to wrench away.

True freedom does not need the controlling hand of a God who cannot stand to allow "his" creations to think for themselves. To live and breathe and even to think of things He does not like.

"Nearly", you say. I say that slightness is where to look. To break the grasp of those hands, even Gods must be destroyed.

I met someone here with the name of Lucifer when I was previously a part of this group. Perhaps it is a common name for those with grievances against the heavens.

It is true. That is the name that my followers know me by.

In the end, there are likely variants of us throughout the multiverse. Some bearing the same name, some not. I would not be surprised.

...Since you have been made to reveal a name that you would rather not have, I suppose I should mention mine, in all fairness. If you should ever hear the title of 'Aries the Fallen', it refers to me. Or rather who I was. I would really prefer 'Nessiah'.

Once again I find myself indebted to this community. For all that it causes minor annoyances upon occasion, finding a kindred spirit seems to be well worth it.

[His outfit does get a curious tilt of the head, but she doesn't ask.] Um, well, rebuilding my home is the main one. And most of my other goals relate to that, since they mostly involve rebuilding parts of the city I'm in.

And how do you intend to accomplish these?

[technologic]

Try to establish communications between cities, rebuild major parts of cities, along with any old transportation routes and bring in power, food and water supplies. And then there's also defending against people who try to attack the cities.

[grancenturio]

All very good things to try to do for a torn-down world. Good luck.

How goes it, if I may ask?

Very slow, but it's getting there. Communication systems are more glitched up than I thought and there's been a few, erm, incidents involving explosions and, ah, buildings collapsing that have set us back, but there has been progress.

[grancenturio]

Slow progress is better than none, assuming that it's fast enough or that you don't mind not seeing the results.

[technologic]

I don't mind it not being fast, and I know I'm not gonna be around to see the final results; it'll take years and years for my home to be rebuilt. But I at least want to try, and let people build up from what I've managed to do.

I've seen many ideals of this nature. Do you believe you have what it takes to back them up?

[technologic]

[He gets a firm nod in reply.] Yes, I do.

That's good. You will never succeed without firm belief.

Then it's a good thing I firmly believe in my ideals. And I've got a lot of allies to help me too, so I know we can do it.
