[TVK - practice, shipping wall explanations.]

:33 < what is a quadrant like you ask
:33 < i'm so glad you asked purrospero!
:33 < a quadrant is one of the four types of romance that can exist fur trolls
:33 < your matesprit, your moirail, your kismesis, and your auspitice are all important!
:33 < people sometimes think that the matesprit and the kismesis are the really important ones because you'll get culled if you don't have those filled on imperial drone day
:33 < but your morail and auspitice will help you survive every other day of the sw33p

:33 < okay, no time to waste!
:33 < let's get started

[A sketch of Ledah and April with a heart between them, a sketch of Shakespeare and Francis with a heart between them, a sketch of Diarmuid and Grainne with a heart between them, a sketch of Atsuro and Madoka with a heart between them, a sketch of Saori and Kaiji with a heart between them.]

:33 < human romantic relationships are most like matespritship
:33 < the flushed quadrant is the one with so much affection that turns into mating fondness
:33 < passionate love, in other words

:33 < wow, there sure are a lot of these in purrospero!
:33 < diarmuid and grainne have a committed flushed relationship
:33 < we don't have those as often as you do, but they're wonderfur to think about!
:33 < ledah and april obviously are about to take the step into starting their relationship
:33 < shakespeare and francis are just redflirting everywhere
:33 < atsuro and madoka are so cute, and by their age we usually have a steady matesprit, so they're a good example
:33 < and saori and kaiji are cute too!

[A sketch of Diarmuid and Issei with a diamond between them. And a sketch of Nepeta with another troll (Equius).]

:33 < this is moirallegiance, the pale quadrant
:33 < it might be my favorite quadrant if i didn't try not to pick favorites
:33 < a moirail is like what you'd call a d33p friend, but different
:33 < a moirail will get you to talk about your f33lings and protect you
:33 < sometimes that means calming you down and/or k33ping you from doing stupid things that will hurt you in the end
:33 < sometimes that means killing anyone who looks at you the wrong way
:33 < equius is better at the second one

:33 < equius is my moirail, and i'm very happy with him!
:33 < we've b33n meowrails fur a long time
:33 < i miss him...
:33 < diarmuid and issei have a great moirallegiance here
:33 < they have f33lings jams purractically all the time
:33 < and they're both good at making the other one reconsider the stupid thing they were about to do
:33 < not to mention purrotecting the other
:33 < they have one of the best meowrallegiances i've s33n!

[A sketch of Kayneth, Arturia, and Diarmuid with clubs between them; a sketch of Vriska, Issei, and a question mark with clubs between them.]

:33 < an auspitice is the only quadrant that usually works with two or thr33 trolls
:33 < the ashen quadrant is about making sure two other trolls don't kill each other, basically!
:33 < if you do that with furrocious force or if you do that with words, as long as you get the job done, you can be a good auspitice
:33 < we n33d auspitices to stop black infidelity
:33 < which is bad
:33 < really bad
:33 < imagine someone you hated already cheating on you and you'll know why

:33 < kayneth, arturia, and diarmuid had a thr33-person-type auspitice, at least for a while there
:33 < arturia was in the middle and kept diarmuid from going after kayneth until he calmed down
:33 < vriskers and issei have a two-person-type auspitice
:33 < if vriskers and i got into a catfight, issei would break us up, since she has a kismesis already
:33 < besides, i don't think he likes fighting very much...

[A sketch of Ingrid and Klaus with a spade between them, a sketch of Gilgamesh and Beatrice with a spade between them, a sketch of Vriska and Feferi with a spade between them, a sketch of V/V and Albedo with a spade between them.]

:33 < the caliginous quadrant is kismesisstude
:33 < you hate someone so much
:33 < SO MUCH
:33 < that you start a committed rivalry with them
:33 < you focus on this person over everyone else
:33 < clothes start flying, and... meow!
:33 < you can't just defeat or kill your kismesis
:33 < then there won't be a relationship anymore
:33 < there has to be not much of a gap betw33n your skills

:33 < ingrid and klaus are purretty good at trolling each other
:33 < gilgamesh and beatrice are too
:33 < but if you really want to know how a kismesis works, look at vriskers and feferi
:33 < i'm not sure if i should list albedo's black f33lings here
:33 < they're obviously onesided
:33 < but i don't think v/v's f33lings are red either
:33 < she just likes everyone that way!

:33 < which brings me to...

[A sketch of Diarmuid and Ryuunosuke with both a heart and a spade between them.]

:33 < sometimes you can't decide whether to be in a flushed or caliginous relationship
:33 < this is normal, don't panic!
:33 < the matesprit/kismesis double reacharound usually has one person's black f33lings reacting to the other person's red ones
:33 < this isn't really a quadrant, and should settle if it has enough time

:33 < diarmuid's f33lings for ryuunosuke are black, black, black
:33 < and no wonder, he'd get all his quadrants filled!
:33 < grainne for flushed, issei for pale, kayneth and arturia for ashen (sorta, now), and ryuunosuke for caliginous
:33 < unfortunately ryuunosuke's flushed for him
:33 < he's flushed for a lot of people, actually...
:33 < that's not the point right now
:33 < the combination can be explosive!

:33 < does everyone s33?
:33 < i'll take questions after i take a catnap

"Culled"? I hope that I've misunderstood that particular concept.

[His life literally depending on him finding a kind of relationship he doesn't want to have? Scary thought.]

For what reason is there such prejudice against asexuals in your culture?
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth stares into the storm with a brooding, grim expression. (Brooding)

I suppose that would explain why you're unfamiliar with that particular concept, then. While Earth cultures generally recognize the necessity of procreation, most don't force the issue; it's simply taken for granted that nature will run its course.

Furthermore, contribution to human society tends to be measured in one's ability to work more than one's ability to sire or bear children. One of the great political controversies of this era is whether those who fail to find a place in the workforce should be neglected or aided; to simply kill the unfortunate or the lazy is never even proposed.
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth is completely perplexed. (Come again?)

(Even given Feferi's explanation of these "typing quirks" and the patterns this girl has displayed thus far, it's still remarkably strange to see one's frustration displayed in such a manner.)
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth points and occasionally waves his finger as he talks. (Making my case)

To actually explain the concept of asexuality, however, the human drive to mate varies in strength, and in a rare few it's absent entirely. Given that the world's population continues to grow despite asexuals, their existence isn't considered a concern by most.
truthsnomiracle: (Hmph)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2012-02-05 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That in particular is a matter of kind rather than of degree, and acceptance of homosexuality is far less widespread for reasons that are complicated and generally irrational.
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth peers at you dubiously. (Skeptical)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2012-02-05 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
We do not. Is gender regarded as so cosmetic in your culture?
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth is completely perplexed. (Confused)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2012-02-05 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Given that your culture also places such a high emphasis on procreation, that seems rather peculiar unless troll procreation vastly differs from that of most Earth animals.
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth is completely perplexed. (Confused)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2012-02-05 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
What is the difference between male and female trolls if not that?
truthsnomiracle: (Contemplation)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2012-02-05 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. On Earth, sexual dimorphism evolved precisely because each gender carries different necessary components. If that's not the case for... "Alternia", was it not?... then I'm left to wonder why discernible genders exist at all there.
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth is holding his finger to his temple with a serious expression. (Serious thought)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2012-02-06 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
I don't believe I've heard that name before, but I'll keep that in mind. Other questions come to mind, however: what is a "lusus" and a "mother grub"?
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth is completely perplexed. (Come again?)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2012-02-06 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Give Edgeworth a moment to try to process this, Nepeta...

...yeah, some info is clearly missing from the Logic pool.]

...I beg your pardon?
truthsnomiracle: (Small frown)

[personal profile] truthsnomiracle 2012-02-06 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's all too far removed from anything I'm familiar with for me to successfully contextualize; I'm not even certain where to begin asking questions.
