That is how this evening had begun, Louis lifting his glass in recognition of Aleph's achievement of yet another deed well done. The bartender had been especially thankful and provided Aleph with free drinks throughout the night - Louis, of course, could afford as many as he wanted.

Which turned out to be many. And the night turned out to be a long one. Long enough that even Louis was starting to feel affected.

How was Aleph doing with his human constitution?

"You don't seem to have much tolerance for it." Louis chuckles in reply. "But that will change with experience."

He slammed his fist on the counter. "Whatever happened to being a kid, huh? Runnin around and havin fun... My life's already half over just so they could have their stupid Messiah."

Aleph grumbled as he turned to look at Louis. "'s not fair."

Louis was silent for a moment. "No one would say that your upbringing was fair. However... Will you allow yourself to wallow in despair at that?"

Aleph thought for a moment. "Gabe said I'm gonna live longer than most 'cause they messed with my genes so much. So that, not as much. What really pisses me off? Abaddon. And Valhalla."

A nod. "That was truly cruel of them."
