[Nothing you're living seems that strange to you after a while.]

[ But he likes meeting people (even if he doesn’t like letting them get too close). ]

Someone here told me that back home, their job is to translate alien languages, and they know 15 different languages, including two that don't use words at all and are just body movements. Isn't that amazing?
[No dying required for that to be impressive.]
no subject
Oooh, that is amazing. I don’t know if I’ve ever met anyone who knows that many languages or anyone who knows languages that only involve body language. I wonder how they learned that.
no subject
[Whether women, aliens, or just adults in general, no one above teenagerdom likes to be reminded of how old they're getting.]

[ He can act the part of a knight when he really needs to, but this isn't that kind of situation and he doesn't know what kind of person this person they're talking about are. ]
no subject
[Literal feathers, in this person's case, though Obi doesn't know why that expression is amusing him so much.]
no subject
[ He may be, at least partially, be thinking about the blue messenger birds from home. They need good care. ]
no subject
Except an empty bottle of sake.
[Truly poetic thoughts.]
no subject
[ He smiles in amusement. ]
Does that mean you're looking to get a refill?
no subject
[When would that not be a true statement, though.]
no subject
I guess I’m not entirely terrible at understanding cues.
[ Finally, and with pretty good timing, the bartender notices Obi. ]
Hello. I’d like a refill for this mister and one of the same for me.
no subject
Put them both on my tab.
no subject
And here I was thinking I was gonna treat you.
no subject
[They're both generous people, it seems like.]
You can pay me back by telling me a few of your own stories.
no subject
[ That’s a very good lie. He has so many stories. But talking about himself is something he doesn’t do. ]
no subject
no subject
[ But what could he even tell him? ]
no subject
[But he's not getting out of this, because Bokusui is paying attention.]
no subject
He makes a thoughtful sound, leaning his cheek heavily against the ball of his hand. ]
There is an island where I’m from, that’s called Yuri’s island. The people there are fishermen and bird keepers. The birds help them find the fish, and they have really good ears. They’re also really pretty, blue with green accents, so they look like the ocean. Or so I’m told, I haven’t been there. But I’ve met a person from there and her bird.
The first time I met her was when one of my pharmacist friends was trying to catch the attention of another of the pharmacists, but he was too distracted by the flowers he was gathering. So the girl from Yura’s island used a whistle to make her bird fly up and land on Little Ryuu’s - the second pharmacist’s - book to attract his attention.
The sound he made was really funny. I wish I could have seen his face.
[ He can tell stories well, but this is off the top of his head. A harmless memory that wouldn’t let the other man know that the pharmacists worked in the royal castle, or that Obi is a knight working under the second prince. ]
no subject
I'd be pretty surprised if a bird suddenly landed on my book too!
no subject
Yeah. It would be a bit surprising to have it land on your head, too.
[ He tugs a little at his hair, as if saying that that had happened to him. ]
no subject
[Since he wears this hat most of the time, and all. Wouldn't get a bird directly on his hair.]
