You want to visit Dazai? You have terrible taste, but okay! Dazai is living with Waver in London in the most cramped bachelor pad imaginable - at least Dazai keeps it clean now, sometimes over Waver's protests. Also there's a giant painting of Alexander the Great in the video game room, that's not weird.

Dazai's English isn't stellar, but he's more than capable of bringing a visitor around modern London. If you're the type of person to yeet yourself into the Clock Tower, one of the most distinguished organizations of magi in the world, you can also find yourself there, often helping Waver prepare for his classes.

(You could also find Dazai at the El-Melloi family's home, but Waver wouldn't like that :< He barely tolerates Dazai going there and interacting with his gremlin of an adopted sister.)

He's written himself the ability to travel at will, so he can drop in on the people unlikely to punch him in the face now and then. Or if you'd like to meet some of the other dead authors, he'll be happy to take a trip back home with you.

[It's a relief that Kyouka still wants to associate with him, because Dazai likes her better than 'his' Kyouka. They'd never been all that close.

But they aren't on such bad terms that, when the topic of the authors Dazai knows comes up, Dazai wouldn't offer to introduce her to that Kyouka personally.

Which is what takes them here: the main hall of a library. It's a big library, with people flitting about and sorting through books - someone in the back is having a pitched discussion with someone else about naturalism - but it carries a sense of warmth in it.]

I used to live here. For a library, it's not exactly quiet.

[Dazai's staying close by Kyouka's side, so she doesn't have to feel alone in a strange place.]

[It's been a long time since Dazai had to impress anybody's mother.

He's seen Evan's mother briefly, in memories - enough to know that she cares about her son. More than Dazai's ever cared about him, anyway. (It's not like he can blame her.) But they haven't actually met, so the possibility of her answering the door when he knocks is nerve-wracking.

At least he texted Evan before and Evan said it was okay to come over, so hopefully if she is home, she's prepared...]

I should have brought flowers.

[ Kyouka doesn't know what to think about any of this honestly. Traveling to different worlds, meeting new people... Its different. She's not used to forming or keeping connections like this.

Without Dazai, she wouldn't know where to go and would turn right back around, so it's good that he's close. ]

... It makes sense, for what you have to do.

[ Saving literature and all that came with it. ]

And for how many people live here.

[Shuji scans the room, scans the room... It's possible that Kyouka's on a delve and won't be back for another few hours, or it's possible-]

[A very pretty man approaches. Definitely a man - he sounds more like the detective Ranpo than anything when he opens his mouth.]

Rare of you to come back for a visit, Dazai. And who's this?

[It's exactly because he knows Dazai is coming that Evan makes a point to answer the door before his mother can get there. As it swings open, he offers the older man a smile, standing back so he can come in.]

No, it's okay. That, um, that probably would've embarrassed her. Anyways, she's in the living room, so...

[He gestures that way.]

[It's a relief to see Evan at the door, even if that only delays him having to meet his mom for about a minute.]

I'll try not to be embarrassing.

[...not that that ever works that well for Dazai, but he'll try.

With determination to not be weird or embarrassing or make his partner's mom hate him, Dazai enters the living room.]

Ms. Hansen?

[ Kyouka tilts her head to the side. Definitely nothing like her, just like this Dazai isn't much like the Dazai from her world. ]

Kyouka Izumi. It's nice to meet you.

[Kyouka looks like he has no earthly idea what to say, before settling on-]

Likewise. I admit I'm not certain of the etiquette when meeting someone with my name... You and Dazai met at that castle, correct?

[ There isn't really that many instances of crossdimensional travel that she knows of, so they can make up the etiquette now or something. ]

He taught me how to sew.

[ As if that was the biggest thing that happened between them and not like all the murder in the backdrop. ]

How surprisingly thoughtful of him.

[Dazai looks the tiniest bit embarrassed.]

I'm pleased you both made it out safely.

[ She nods. It was surprising of Dazai, and she is pleased they made it out safe, too. ]

We could have all died. He did die.

[Looking alarmed, Kyouka turns to Dazai, who shrugs.]

I've had worse. Dying's not so bad.

[Dazai is maybe not the most objective person when it comes to dying.]

You weren't guilty.

[ And he died for the person who was. Kyouka has no strong opinion on his relationship with ~~Waver~~ Lord El Melloi II, but she doesn't think he should've died for him, at least not like that.

(It's hypocritical thinking because she would've made herself seem guilty to save the people she loves, too.) ]

You would have done the same for Nico, if it came to that.

[He knows and he's calling her out.

Kyouka increasingly (unsure) over here.]

[ Not a denial but also not quite agreeing.

The other Kyouka can stay unsure. ]

...I'd hope not the same way, you're a little young for that.

[That isn't what Kyouka meant??]

[ the sound and sight of doors opening are the first thing that will come to dazai's view. they're grand, opulent doors, leading into a room that seems fit for only the most royal of people. it's a place where a ball should take place, or perhaps a royal banquet.

instead, there's a lone male with shoulder-length hair, sitting on the floor like as if he had just been thrown on there. his hair and clothes look disheveled, his face pale.

but, despite some differences, dazai should be able to recognize him. after all, that is none other than waver velvet. ]

[Dazai recognizes Waver instantly - he recognize Waver if he looked nothing like himself. Even if there was no resemblance at all, Waver is still his-]

Sensei? [He realizes it's a little silly to call a teenager Sensei as he sits beside him, but he doesn't care.] What happened?

A-aah!?

[ the sound of waver's voice might be a bit higher pitched than dazai might be used to, and when he turns around his face definitely looks younger; less wrinkles.

but, most importantly, this waver doesn't recognize dazai. so when he's referred to like that, his first reaction is to glare suspiciously. ]

You're not my student. And don't talk to me in Japanese-- I hate that stupid language. If you were sent by another Lord, tell them I'm busy, or dead, or whatever. And if that demon spawn sent you to laugh at me, then I'll kindly ask you to go fuck yourself.

[Switching to speaking in English is the easy part. The rest more or less rolls off Dazai's back, because Waver loves him. He just doesn't realize it yet, is all.]

Waver, what happened?

Tch...you just don't get it, do you?

[ waver grits his teeth upon being insisted. more than looking angry, though, he looks...humiliated. ]

I've received punishment for my sins-- I've been made into a Lord.

[Isn't that a reward, Dazai thinks, and then remembers the old guard of writing. If he were made one of the white birch group, or something else similarly unoriginal-]

I'm so sorry.

Hmph, don't worry about it.

[ waver huffs, shrugging his shoulders as if this was absolutely normal. he stands up with a grunt, dusting his pants and dress shirt. ]

I bet this is how that El-Melloi wants to get her revenge but...[ he smiles, wryly ] but it's fine. As long as I'm not dead, it's fine.

This would be Reines' revenge scheme, wouldn't it.

[He doesn't call her sister in front of the newly traumatized young Waver, aren't you proud.

Dazai stays sitting on the floor for a moment longer.]

You'll be better than fine.

Huh?

[ waver raises an eyebrow ]

How do you know?

Isn't it obvious? If you were the kind of person who let people get the better of you just because they're nobility, none of this would have happened the way it did.

[Dazai doesn't have all the details, but he knows enough: the Holy Grail War, Waver stealing his teacher's relic, that teacher dying, Waver serving as a temporary replacement.]

... I wonder about that.

[ waver's gaze shifts away from dazai, sighing. there's something on his mind but, whatever it is, he has no intentions of telling. ]

Either way, this is something I have to do. Even if I wanted to just lay down and die, I have to work hard to fulfill my duty.

That's the Waver I know. ...But I never knew you were this cute when you were younger.

[Adorable. Dazai's standing and resisting the urge to smoosh his cheeks.]

Wh-what?!

[ well that's one way of changing the subject! waver immediately turns red, quickly flustered

he huffs. ]

That's none of your business, you idiot.

[he wasn't even trying]
